USAWhen the idea was thrown out there, it just seemed absolutely crazy.  We did not want to make just another documentary film about the apparitions of Our Lady in San Sebastian de Garabandal.  We wanted a movie and we wanted that movie to reach theaters all over the world.  Today, I finally have the honor of announcing that this crazy idea has become a reality and that Garabandal, Only God Knows will be coming to U.S. theaters on February 1, 2019.  We are truly grateful to God for all of this. When we see the disproportion between our own efforts and the stunning results, it is so apparent that the Blessed Virgin Mary has truly listened to the prayer that the more than 300 volunteers involved in the filming lifted up to her time and time again: “May Our Mother permit this movie to transmit her blessing!”

The textual basis for the movie Garabandal, Only God Knows, is taken from the doctoral thesis of Father José Luis Saavedra, which he defended in 2017 at the University of Navarre in Spain. The title of his thesis is María de Garabandal, estado de las apariciones ocurridas en San Sebastián de Garabandal entre 1961 y 1965 (Mary of Garabandal, state of the apparitions that occurred in San Sebastian de Garabandal between 1961 and 1965).  This has been the first doctoral thesis to present a scientific study of the events of Garabandal and has helped to assure both the seriousness and the objectivity of the movie’s script.

Garabandal, Only God Knows has done nothing more than bring to the screen what the witnesses themselves have stated. The viewer will see the girls in ecstasy, listen to the messages given by Our Blessed Mother for the conversion of the world, and be witnesses to the miracle of the visible Communion and of the many other inexplicable events that occurred in Garabandal.  The movie does respect the authority of the Church to make a definitive pronouncement on the events which have taken place. Soraya M. Sesto Martínez, coordinator of the group of volunteers responsible for making it possible for 10,000 people in Puerto Rico to see the movie (making for an average of 3,000 viewers per one million inhabitants), has expressed this in the following way: “the most extraordinary thing about the movie is that without ostentation or drama, it allows us to form our own opinion about what occurred there and about the messages given by the Virgin Mary.”  As faithful sons and daughters of the Church, it was necessary for it to be dealt with in this manner.

This movie crowns the work that so many people have been carrying out since 1961 and continue to carry out in sharing what occurred in Garabandal and truly marks a before and after in the history of these apparitions. Why?  Because through this movie, Our Mother is bringing to light the great interest that Garabandal continues to stir throughout the world.  This has already been the experience in Spain, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Ecuador where the film has already been premiered and seen by more than 130,000 viewers.  Garabandal, Only God Knows, has become an instrument through which the messages of Our Lady have resounded in all corners of the world.

On February 1, 2019, Garabandal, Only God Knows will be premiered in 11 locations throughout the United States in the cities where the largest number of request forms to see the movie have been received through the movie’s website. These cities are:  Los Angeles, New York City (downtown Manhattan), Miami, Jacksonville, Orlando, Houston, Chicago, Waterbury Ct, Phoenix and Denver.

It will be shown with all the power of the original Spanish soundtrack with English subtitles.  Mater Spei, the producers of Garabandal, Only God Knows hopes that, in the weeks following the premier, the movie will also be brought to many other cities across the U.S. In order for this to happen, the expressed support and interest of many souls living in this country who love the Virgin Mary will be a great asset. This can be done by visiting the producers’ website and filling out the corresponding form to show your interest in viewing the film.
